The following describes how one can become a doctor in the UK. A doctor is very valued in the UK, as they are able to save many lives and also can improve them. They provide a service that can be said to be second to God, and this article explains how you can also become a doctor.
The Requirements To Become A Doctor:
You will need to have certain skills and qualities to succeed as a doctor. Some of these include:
– Communication skills
– Active listening
– Interpersonal skills
– Critical thinking
– Attention to Detail
– The ability to stay calm under pressure
– Time management
– Organisational skills
This also means that you are able to build up these skills which will benefit the future you.
In terms of qualifications, you will need many things:
– A five-year degree in medicine recognised by the General Medical Council.
– A two-year foundation course of general training.
– Two to three years of core medical training (CMT) or Acute Care Common Stem (ACCS) programme.
– Four to seven years of specialist training, depending on your chosen area of medicine.
Overall, the time needed to become a doctor is around 14 or 15 years, which may be a deterrent, but if you can see past that and work hard, you will be able to find your dream job that has a pay between £41,158 to £76,751 as a basic pay, which will make your journey well worth it.
If You Are Outside The UK And Want To Become A Doctor:
All doctors intending to practise medicine in the UK are required to be registered with the GMC, follow the GMC’s good medical practice guidance, and be subject to the GMC Fitness to practice Actions. Doctors who hold registration, but not a licence, may be working as an academic or outside the UK. They cannot undertake any of the activities – clinical work – for which UK law requires them to hold a licence to practise.
So, doctors who have never been registered with the GMC will have to apply for registration with a licence to practise. They will not be able to apply for registration without a licence. However, do keep in mind that you will not always find employment if you have a GMC.
If You Live Outside The EU And Wish To Work As A Doctor In The UK:
The requirements are the same for a person who is in the EU. The only difference is that you also have to meet the requirements of UK Visas and Regulations to gain the right to work.
On top of all of this, you must be proficient in English speaking, writing, reading and listening.
